I set out to carve this for our wedding anniversary on 31 st January – I overshot the target date and got it completed just in time for St Valentine’s Day!
It was well received by my wife.
I’ve been carving just under a year, so I’m quite well pleased with this as a first serious project. Lots more I could have done with more time, but sometimes you just have to stop and say – that’s it, its finished.

I like it a lot! Way to go! Did you use any scroll sawing or power carving tools or just the hand carving tools? Nice finished product.

Very nice for your “first” major carving project! I understand about overshooting your estimated completion date. I got everything together for a padauk box for my wife for Valentine’s day, but I got too busy preparing our garden so she will get it for her birthday.
Nice looking spoon!

Beautiful job David!
Was this your design? It’s very nice.
I’ve carved a few spoons also.

Thanks for the comments.
I used the scrollsaw to cut the outline and the internal spaces, then used a variety of carving gouges. I tried using a carving knife, but find the gouges much better for me.
The design is a freebie from Lora Irish.
