A fun little project for the wife. Inspired by one of Keifer’s projects (http://lumberjocks.com/projects/52006). It’s 6” x 17” by 5” tall. Book matched cocobolo, highly figured (fiddle back?) maple (top trim and legs) and less figured (wavy) maple for the half lapped stringers underneath. Just for giggles, I attached the cocobolo to the maple with 6 flush ground brass rivets. Finish is wipe on poly and good ol’ Johnson’s paste wax. The stringers were not supposed to be tapered on the ends but a sanding error on one forced them all to a new shape. I like the way they turned out. One of those rare instances where a mistake led to a better over all project.
By the way, is there a specific species for fiddle back maple, wavy maple, curly maple, etc. etc. or they just adjectives for the figuring?
Thanks for looking.
