A finished project showing a 3” diameter cup/bowl made from Ebony, BloodWood and Osage Orange.
Glued up with Original Gorilla Glue and polished with Shellawax Cream

This is about the max diameter I can do on my lathe without riser blocks

I’m regretting not turning the inside down another 1/8 ” to show the bloodwood as a bottom.
Maybe someday I wil turn a lid for it and make it a round box

There were some checks in the ebony i used for the rim. Filled in with CA and polished out but stil noticable in a pic. I think it overheated during sanding

I’m likin’ this! I hope to make a coffee mug similar to this I just don’t know what to use for a finish that won’t kill me or at least not ruin the taste of my java.

Not sure what finish to use for coffee. Food safe wax wont stand up to the heat. Laquer .. maybe but probably same issue. Is polyurethane food safe?

Maybe you can use a glass or metal insert that you could even take out to wash .

That is a handsome piece. I love the shape.

Well done.
