These are some confetti Lamps I turned this past December. I got the kits from Rockler and used 2”x2” blanks. I am gathering some larger blanks for the next batch I turn. I would like to do some with a more rounded bottom.
Wood used:
Argentine Lignum Vitae
Cocobolo
Maple Burl
Walnut Burl

Sweet little lamps, Chris.
I especially like the Cocobolo with the accent rings.

Argentine Lignum Vitae—that’s cool stuff, it looks almost like Canary wood that I get from the local Hardwood Lumber co. near me. I never realised how close these resembled each other. Unless it is just the picture, but I swear, I can put a picture of this stuff next to a picture of canary wood and you’d be hard pressed trying to tell the difference.
I just read up on the Lignum, it’s called “The Densest wood in the world”, how brutal was it to turn on a lathe? I’ve recently turned some Brazillian Cherry that was absolutely hard as a rock….. IN fact, though I’ve never seen Lignum before, if it is harder than B. Cherry, then it must be like the “Diamond” when it comes to wood hardness?
Have your say...
