Handplane birdhouse

Here’s a handplane birdhouse I made from the plans on the PopWood website. I gave it to my parents for Christmas, and my father mounted it on a crossbeam in their backyard that had been used years ago to support a swing.

I made the bottom removable (it’s held in place by just two or three screws), which is a change from the plans, but I think it made construction easier and allows the birdhouse to be mounted by its back, as shown in the last picture.

That’s pretty sweet, Brett, but I have to ask, “Where are the shavings?”

Very unique design for a birdhouse. What kind of birds will it attract? Just plane birds? LOL (:

Just to reiterate, I did not come up with the idea. The plans are available on the website.

Update. My parents report that no birds ever nested in the plane/birdhouse. Maybe I should have made a replica of an infill smoother.
