This past summer we put on a 2-floor addition consisting of 2 rooms upstairs and 1 large room downstairs. For the downstairs room I was aiming for a 4-season porch type of feel. To do this I decided to put in a wood ceiling with wood beams. Step 1 which is all that’s done so far is to put the v-paneling up. I used solid black ash v-paneling which I had custom made from a wood cutter. I really like the look of it. When it gets warmer out and I can work on them outside I will order the beams which will be solid 3×5 black ash beams and will cover the seams you see in the ceiling. I’ll also box in the ceiling with 1×3 trim from black ash. Not sure yet how I’m going to varnish all this.

Another project I have to do still is the trim in this room. I’m planning on doing craftsman style trim but I haven’t decided on a wood yet. I also need to invest in a planer so I can do it from rough cut but haven’t broken down and bought one yet.

Shay,

I am a firm believer that you cannot put too much wood in a house. This only confirms my philosophy.

Thanks for the post.
