I recently moved my pen turning up a notch by foregoing the forever-flexing-mandrel and am now TBC (turning between centers). I use a dead center in the headstock with a live center in the tailstock. Because this pen uses a 7mm tube it was a bit tricky, I have been using specially made bushings for the slimline pens I’m making TBC but the end diameters of this bullet pen are different. So instead I put this on with the centers holding the blank directly and used calipers for the final dimensions.
The pen itself is a 50 caliber once fired machine gun shell with curly walnut from a tree originally harvested by Remington Rifle Co. Finished with about 8 coats of thin CA and another 5 coats of thick CA, then buffed out with some rouge and buffing wheels.
Thanks for looking.
