I had a tray such as this made of plastic. One day when I went to move it the top tray section came off in my hand. Guess I loaded it to much. I was about to throw it away when the thought struck me. Why not make one from wood. You call yourself a woodworker. This is what turned out. It is very useful in that I put my most used small tools such as screwdrivers, chisels, pliers, calipers, Try square, etc in the upper slots and wrenches, assorted drill bits, assorted screwdriver bits, countersinking drill bits and assorted small parts in the lower divided tray section. This keeps them handy at the edge of my table and easily removable if need be.

Great idea! It seems while I’m working on a project I just keep the pile of most used tools on the end of the bench. Then when you need more space you have to stop and either move that pile or put them away. A moveable tray like this one would be most helpful. I will be making one. Hope you don’t mind me copying your idea!

Copy at will. Like I said I copied it from a tray I already had so feel free. Somewhere down in the middle is a handle used to move it. I salvaged it from the old tray.
Thanks for the comments.

This is a very timely post for me. I’m setting up my shop and NEED to figure out some organization for often the used tools & supplies. I really like the idea of the frequenly used items being at hands legnth when you need them & out of the way when you don’t.
Thanks for sharing this! Oh yeah, NICE JOB!!!

I said it one time before and I’m saying it again. This is a very good site. I started not to put this in as a project cause it was so nondescript and plain ugly. I never guessed people would want to copy it. I would tell anybody don’t cull your projects. You never know with just some simple idea who would need it and just hadn’t though of it yet.
Glad it helped those it did.
Thanks

You can’t see it for the tools but it has a handle in the center and it is handy for when I need to move it for room.

It’s so easy to make and helps keep the clutter down on your workbench.
