This was my second attempt at making a bowl (I can’t show you the first…it turned out so bad I use it for storing small parts in the shop). The wood is Spalted Hackberry the finish is Watco Butcher Block finish. Not knowing much at the time I turned this green all at once to final dimension, so the top got a bit out of round as it dried, but doesn’t look too bad.

Good looking bowl. If you hadn’t said anything you couldn’t tell it was out of round. Really I looked several times and can’t see it in the pictures.

Doesn’t look out of round to me looks good, great choice of wood.

Good start.
If you continue to turn green wood and want to dry it fairly quickly before your final shaping look into microwave drying. You turn your item about 3/4 of the way, dry it, and then finish. I can send you more details or you can search the web for info.

Will this leave any smell in the microwave? I think I saw one post or thread or website where they said it would. If so better not use the Wiffie’s M/W.
