This is an initial attempt at making a nice looking side-grain cheeseboard.
The material choices I had for this one was really nice, each example of wood
has some beautiful aspects, especially when taken outside. In sunlight, the
birdseye maple, curly maple, and mahogany look unbelievable! Finished with
my usual Howards oil and wax preparation. More of these are on the bench
awaiting final finishing…pics posted soon.

That is some beautiful wood. You are very lucky to have made the acquaintance of your wood source. I have a suggestion that you might try to show off the various woods by using thinner maple strips between each wide strip. The colors seem to merge into each other now. but that may be the effect you want. They do look nice.

Great mix of wood species, nice work.

Too funny that you suggest inserting small stripes of maple, I have done almost exactly this with cherry on a few boards for another client. I’ll post those soon, hopefully. Thanks much for the suggestion, I am always open to that kind of thing!

Robert, got pics up with the interleaving cherry strips… I like the look…Even tried varying the widths wildly…fun experiments if nothing else!
