I made these two boxes for a friends young daughters as a thank you gesture for a favor he did me. Simple pine boxes. What was interesting is I initially intended a oil only finish. I have had great results on pine with Old English Almond oil. Especially if the wood is grainy. However I didnt like the look of this particular batch when oiled. So I applied red mahogany minwax stain to one straight after oiling. And the result was unexpected. The oil somehow altered how the sapwood absorbed the stain creating a stripey antique’ish look. The second box got Minwax provincial over the almond oil.

They look good, kind of like a couple of family heirlooms, nice job.

neat looking boxes; good job on the finish – I know how blotchy pine can be but it looks like you have overcome that problem
