A Cartoon Cacophony Scrollwork

I started on this project a year and a half ago. Since this project was for myself,I put it aside whenever another anyone else ordered something, etc…. and would pick it up from time to time to do a few minutes of work on it.

It then was moved to a higher shelf in the shop and forgotten about for the last six months. I finally found it again when I did a thorough cleaning of my shop last week. I finished it last night.

There are 28 different cartoon characters cut into this piece of poplar. The piece measures 14×9 inches and is only around 1/4 inch thick. It took a while to lay out this pattern as well as the overall shape of the piece.

The finish of choice is a soak in lemon oil and a backing of thick black felt.

I KNOW I’m asking for trouble, but I would like to see how quickly you LJ’ers can name all 28 characters in this scrollwork – pic three is numbered. Just reply below with the number and name. If you see someone already named a character correctly please don’t repeat it.

Ok, gulp, here goes….............. ;-)

Enjoy and let the chaos commence!

MrsN, You are spot on!!!! With the exception of #20 this has been completed within 4 minutes!

You must be as much of a fan of the ‘toons as I am! :-)

I KNEW 22 would be a tough one, but I thought 20 was pretty easy…........ interesting.

Now that’s a cool project that appeals to so many crowds. Nice job.

Wow! Now that was an interesting few hours – I posted this, went to work in my shop for a few hours and look at the results!

First of all – thanks for the compliments! I did have a lot of fun cutting this – even though it took forever!

It looks like the hardest few are also the oldest, which makes total sense to me.

Casper, Felix, Mighty Mouse, Sherman & Peabody are all from a different era, but are still just as good as the ones on nowadays. :-)

DiggerJack, I wanted to include about a DOZEN more, but I guess I just had to draw the line somewhere and so I went for the most recognizable silhouettes. I also wanted to include more “older” ones.

I am pretty sure I could do this with 28 other characters for a “Part II”. We will see…..........

Thanks again everyone!

Just to fill out the list:

26 – Sherman
27 – Mr. Peabody

Strangely enough, two of the computers on my home network are named Sherman and Mr. Peabody.
