I finally finished the top for the base I completed about a year ago!

The top has breadboard ends.

Great job on the legs. And the finish advertises the nice grain lines.

The legs are really solid. I like the look that the tapered legs and breadboard edges give this table. Very nicely done.

How did you finish it?

thanks for sharing.

Very impressive. It is a beautiful table. What did you finish it with? I like the simplicity of the lines, especially with something as grainy as Oak. When can my kids come over and scratch it? You talk about the project taking a year, all my projects will remain “unfinished” for the next 18 years. That’s how long it will take before I can safely move them inside. Until then, they can watch daddy work from the plexiglass cubicle I like to call the observation deck.

BTMarshall,

Your kids can come over and scratch anytime – we call the look – character!

I used Medium Walnut Tung Oil, after hours of sanding.

Nothing like breadboard edges to give it finished look.

Here’s that LumberJock thing. I get to say “nice legs” to a guy and he doesn’t think I’m weird.

Very nice table. One thing to consider only for the asthetic value is to make sure the laminations are all facing the same way. It is hard to tell on the picture, but it looks like one of the legs is facing the other direction. I never thought it mattered until I did a chess table and one leg was facing a different direction than all of the others and since it was also an oak table, the grain was glaring at me.

Great table though! I love the cutting board edge.

Very nice table Paul. The legs and the breadboard ends really make it stand out.

Just my opinion. The legs appear too close together from the end shot pix provided here , which makes them appear too bulky for the size of the rest of the table and really exaggerates the overhang of the top . And as mentioned earlier , I also have laminated legs only to have one of them “disoriented ” upon assembly . We are all on a learning curve , so please don’t be offended by my comment . Just telling it as I see it ..I think you did a great job overall building it and the finish looks nice too .
