My wife has accumulated a fair amount of “stuff” over the years and we were running out of place to put it all. When we decided that it was time to replace our ‘70s kitchen (dark brown cabinets, YELLOW counter tops, and brown appliances) I wanted to give her a place for her “stuff.” Now she has a place, but over time now she has more “stuff” than she has place to put it: maybe she has a plan of her own.
The breakfast table was an original thought of my sister in-laws but I improved upon it and added the basket rack on the front of the base. Everything is hand crafted except the two upright cabinets of the upper unit: it was easier and cheaper to buy these pre-made. The plate rack is one of those things that I wonder why I have it: the plates never get used, but the color looks good in the room.

Excellent design, concise use of space, and a very functional layout.

Mr T. Thanks! If my family was any bigger, the table would not be big enough.

Brian,
This is a nice use of the space that have available. Adding storage under the table was a novel idea and adding matching shelves to the upper cabinets adds a nice look to your kitchen. I am sure that your wife is pleased with this project.
I can sympathize with you. My wife manages to collect baskets, fenton glassware, and other “dust collectors”. You simply have to beg for some more shop time (and maybe some tools as well) and build some pieces to proudly display all of her priceless collectibles.
thanks for the post.
