I know this is silly. I have to much time on my hands. This box is 1.5” x 1” x 1” tall. The box was made entirely by hand tools. The corners are mitered, the bottom is just a slab sized to fit, the top is one rabbetted piece, that I used a chisel to fit. The inside is flocked and I simply waxed the exterior.
This was a fun “little” project. It was a challenge to get the miters done – the box is not completely square as I had one corner that I could not get just right. And, or course, I’m not happy with how the lid sits. But long and short I had fun and I kept a little bit of wood out of the trash bin.

I like it! It is the projects that bring personal joy that mean the most.

I made a box jointed/finger joint box the same size. It was fun also. Too small for anything bigger than a class ring or a wedding band set. But fun to look at anyway. Yours is a very cool box with class and now a purpose.

looks like a nice place to store your… umm… hats for you rechargable batteries?
great way to test your skills, and keep a nice little block of wood from the fire.

Betsy,
I see my previous warning in your earlier post came too late. You have no choice now but to keep on making boxes. :)
This is a nice little box. It is a wonderful accomplishment to simply execute a build this small.
thanks for sharing.

Betsy, i’m sitting here trying visualize how small this box is, that’s about the length of my thumb. How do you hold onto something so small to work on it?

Betsy, that’s one more box than I’ve ever made with a handtool :) Seriously, very nice job on the box.

thanks all. This really was a fun project.
Paul – I used double sided tape to hold the lid on my workbench so that I could chisel the rabbit. The sides were cut in a small Zona miter box and simply held the pieces by finger power. Shooting the miters on the shooting board was the hardest part. It’s hard to picture but I actually used by No. 4 smoothing plane to shoot the edges.
Scott – I think I’ve really caught the box bug. They are a lot of fun.

This is cute, but it took some skill to build!
I was thinking today that my scrap supply is getting out of control. But if I started making boxes this size, I’d never have to buy lumber for the rest of my life. Hmmmm…...

Nice box Betsy. I bet if I put all the money that I have left after buying all these tools, that I could almost fill it.

Anything made from left over lumber deserves merit. I dislike the term scrap. Good work.

Thanks all!
It is nice to use those scraps. But not sure I’d make many of these. It takes more time to make a little box than it does a “normal” sized one!

The fleas yes. The big top needs another box.
Thanks Blake – the flocking seems to be the way I like to do the insides. I had to use a Q-tip and a toothpick to get in the corners.
