A couple of years ago, I was looking for something neat to give my Dad for Father’s Day. I discovered that you could learn to make Shaker Boxes at the Pleasant Hill Shaker Village which is about 15 minutes from one of my sister’s house. I got my sisters on board and my Dad and I were signed up for the class. We each made a set of 5 at the class and then came back to Pennsylvania where we set up for box making. Since then, we’ve made at least 200 boxes betwen us. He lives in the woods and has used some of his own cherry trees to make the bands, tops and bottoms.
Well these are some of the different sizes and styles that I have made. One group is a set of 7 graduated sizes with charry sides and birdseye maple tops. Another set is the painted maple sides and pine tops withn a cherry serving tray in the back.
This is a fun project that requires several different sessions to complete since the wood needs to dry after bending.

That’s pretty cool. I remember seeing a tv program where they built them.

Beautiful boxes. A keepsake collection that would rival many others. I’ll bet that class was inspiring.

These are wonderful boxes. I have always said that building these is addictive and I see nothing here to contradict this paradigm. :)
Wonderful job.
thanks for sharing.

Great boxes. We have a boxmaking class every year in our woodworking club. They are fun to make.
Your boxes look great.
