This is Post Stumpy 2×4 Contest Box 2 from a 2×4x8’ stud
The Stumpy contest ended about a month ago… this box was short by about 3 hours of meeting the contest deadline.

Finishing: BLO, Garnet dewaxed shellac, Deft spray can Lacquer Gloss… I will use this box for 3×5 cards & other misc items.

It is very hard to Finish a 2×4 to make it look like Poplar, etc.!

Looks as good as the other one, and the finish, you would never have guessed pine until you follow the grain, if anbody asks me I will tell them I think it’s poplar.

That kid turned out pretty darned nice, Joe, even if it is the child of a 2×4….....(-:

I always say that wooden boxes last forever, and any that I have made have. But I tend to make them out of plywood which eliminates a lot of issues such as splitting. But I bet that son of a 2×4 outlives you and me….....

Hi Joe. An extremely nice box. I love the way you made the handle, looks great! Too bad you didn’t finish in time, but at least you got a wonderful result for your efforts.

It’s amazing to see that such a nice box can be made from a 2 X 4 ! You certainly deserved the honorable mention too.
