Moon Cradle

I saw a picture online of a man in the moon bed that supposedly Hemmingway slept in… and I thought I could make something simple like a moon cradle for my grandchild expected in April 2012. It’s made of quilted and ambrosia hard maple. Finished with Danish oil. The slats are attached to cleats which are in turn attached to the sides of the rocker.

Thanks! I am working on a quilt to go with it. It measures 16” tall from floor to moon ‘nose’ and about 35” from stem to stern. In reality its not much bigger than a car seat. But it is beefy…slats are 3/4” thick….probably my 5 year old grandson could jump in it without breaking the slats….tho I couldn’t speak for his head, lol!
Its meant to be used just for naps….maybe while mom is sitting quietly watching tv or on computer…she could rock it while she does…whatever moms do …..I know it can’t be used for a baby after a couple months- not safe once baby learns to turn over…but since we’re expecting a girl I thought she could eventually use it for dolls.

I think this would look even better with a paint job. I like the wood look, but for some reason a paint job is calling to me. Great job!
