Segmented Birds Eye Maple & Ebony Vase with Red Oak base 8” D x 6 1/4” H 401 pieces
Finished with several coats Polymerized Linseed Oil and Beeswax then Wipe on Poly and a coat of Wax.
This one took me a while as I was still recuperating from my total knee replacement surgery and couldn’t stand for long and had to take many breaks and the month of January is how long it took me to make this. My knee is healing nicely and I am walking with no pain now and YES the operation was totally worth it! I do not have full range of motion with it yet and may never have the full motion that I had before but the absence of pain makes up for that!
Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated!

Sure is a very nice piece Erwin, looks like a lot of careful cutting & tight glueing followed by a great turn. Fabulous timber selection & matching, bet you keep this one :: )))

Makes me wonder if you don’t need to get that other knee replaced… :-) Just kidding! That is an amazing work of art. The patience needed on two good knees (hmmm) would be much more than I could muster if I had anything like your skill. Hard to improve on perfection….

That is one beautiful vase !
Looks like you are feeling better by looking at this .
The segmenting is tight and precise in pattern .
It doesn’t get better than that .

Very nice piece Bear: I was intrigued by your first words (my best work ever) so I took a look at your other pieces to compare—Hell man Your first piece looks better than my last. Any how that is a great piece and the feature ring gave me an idea of inserting an array of the (rather my) most common used species of wood highlighted in a bordered Ebony frame. Now I’m starting to drool—gotta go
