Deep Relief carving made for a friend, with his grandparents names carved in. Made from Butternut. It took 30 hrs to complete.

30 hours well spent in my opinion! It’s very detailed! Nice work!

HI Kenny, Great work. Butternut. I have two slabs of that, but I have not carved into it yet. I have done walnut and Hickory so far. What was your method? and What was the texture like?

Hi Eric. Butternut is just like Walnut. Butternut has been called White Walnut or the poor mans Walnut, so I’ve been told. I carved it in the tradional method of using hand gouges and chisels. No power tools.
