The artists name who originally designed it is Pavel Eekra. He had the basic construction methods on his website, but left many details unknown.
There is no internal frame or structure in this. There are 7 layers and 8 pieces on each layer.
What i thought was going to be a 2 day build was actually 8 days, 5 of which were spent making mockups out of poster board and less expensive veneer. There was so much more to this than I originally thought. Getting the piece of veneer to curve took a lot of thinking, and getting the shapes and sizes of the different pieces right also took a lot of time. This is by far one the most complicated pieces I have made to date. NOw that i have the templates It should only take a couple of days to slap this together.
I like the end result, but his is better. I’ll have to work the kinks out before the next one.
