Project Information

I wanted something unique and relatively easy to go above my bed, and somehow this contraption took shape. It's made out of about 250 individually placed bamboo skewers ($1.00 for 100 at Wally World) glued together with Titebond II. I started off by gluing sets of 3 together into triangles, and then slowly attaching each triangle to the chain. The key is in all the extra pieces, however. Almost every additional skewer touches 3 or 4 other skewers, so the conglomeration is fairly rigid. Yes, this is a ridiculously tedious process. After the "top" side was filled in enough for my liking, I flipped it over to add strength to the back. I was lazy and just spray painted it brown, but this way it matches the few things I have in my room fairly well.

It did take me a few days to put everything together, but most of the time was spent waiting for a layer to dry before adding more skewers. Finished, it's roughly 7' long.

That's epic. They'd probably charge $200 for it at Ikea.
