My wife collects cookbooks, so she needed a home for at least some of them. Made from cherry and birch plywood stained with a cherry stain.

(There are 585 books here and over 300 more upstairs. And she says I have way too many power tools.) :)

Dale.

Thanks rdjack,

I built the two outside cases first, and then built the middle shelves to fit. The lower unit in the middle has plenty of room to fit, plus the Formica top was leftover from our kitchen renovation. It was the part of the countertop that the contractors cut out to make room for our cooktop stove. I just cut it to width and then put cherry trip on both sides of the countertop.

I’m grateful for our electrician’s suggestion of add the two small can lights. I think they add a nice, final touch to the entire area.

Thanks again, Dale.

Nicely done, but does she use the cookbooks?, I get the same thing as you, and no we never have too many power tools, as far as I am concerned I will never have enough.

Martin,

Both my wife and I are laughing over your comment. To be honest, she really does use these cookbooks. Here’s the really spooky part. If you were to walk into our kitchen and ask Julia if she had a recipe for an orange flavored scone, she’d walk right over to the cookbook case and pull out 3 books…with all variations on the same request.

Plus she just let me in on a secret. She says that she has many more cookbooks hiding behind the ones you see.

You know what that means? I’m going to 7 Corners Hardware tomorrow for more tools. :)

Dale.

That’s the spirit Dale, you need to keep up with the wife’s collection, it’s no competition in my house, I’m the cook and have only 50 or 60 cookbooks, it works out kind of backwards in my house, I can’t stop buying things and my wife doesn’t spend any money, according to her I have too many interests and it’s putting us in the poor house. At least that’s what I think she was saying when I was on my way out to play golf, and making way back with a quick stop at Lowes.

Have your say...
