A couple of years ago we had to put our Black Lab down. We had him cremated, and got him back in a tin box.
I got the idea of making an urn for him. I showed it to the Vet, and now I make them for him. The ones that I have made for him are out of pine. These two are out of Mahogany and Walnut, and Pine and Mahogany.

Good job Bill. I have a question regarding the interior. Does it need to be sealed in some way and the lids, are the put on permanantly. I’ve considered making some of these but thought the might be more to it than I thought.

Bryan, I use five coats of lacquer on the out side. I sand it on the last two coats. I use water to lubricate while I use 800 grit then 1000 then 1500 grit foam pads. After that I use water and fine pumace. Then buther block oil and rotten stone to bring back the shine. Then a couple of coats of furniture polish. I use a little paint thinner on the rag to thin the polish a little. After that dries I rub it down. The inside of the box I put one coat just to seal the wood…. It takes more time to finish the boxes than it does to build them…. Hope that helps….Bill

I have 4 small boxes and one med box on the fireplace mantle, all loved pets that gave us 14+ years of love each. Pictures are on each box, favorite toy, and a clipping of their fur. I miss them all but they are not far away. We currently have a 19 yr old cat and a 2 yr old cat. they will have a place with the others one day also.
I hope when I croak someone builds me a box! lol
