Project Information
Ah, Finally a project for me…..or should i should say, for the wifey.
Wifey wanted new king size bed, so the queen log bed is now downstairs and I made this one.
We were inspired by the classic Nakashima walnut slab bed. I went to the lumber yard and looked around. Many great slabs but all very expensive.
As we were about to leave I found this gem out in the snow, weathered and wet.
It is a huge spruce slab, 3 inches thick and just long enough for a king size head board (80 inches) and 30 inches wide.
I made a simple bed frame (just 4 boards) with some simple feet.
The head board is bolted to posts (with elongated holes of course) and then bolted to the back rail.
We got an organic bed as a gift (or every gift for the next 2 years) so the finish is just organic bees wax over organic black tea stain.
I never took a picture with the slates, but there are 10 2×6's running length wise.
