This desk was creation from many sources. The customer had several a few different pictures of what they wanted and I combined them into what you see here.
A couple challenges on this project. First we needed to match the color without a customer sample and the customer lives our of state. We matched it by an emailed picture, sent a couple samples while getting closer each time, the last time we just went for it. Here is what the customer had to say:
”Hello! It took us a while to get the furniture from the garage where the truck dropped it off up into my sons bedroom because my husbands back was out, but now that I can see it in the room it is gorgeous! The wood color matches the bed exactly as if from the same bottle of stain!!!thank you!!”
The second challenge was trying to do the accent colors without having to tape off. You can not use a stain and have a clean line. I did think about staining the entire piece and then tapping off for the paint, but that would be way to time consuming. I ended up pre-fitting all the trip pieces, marking their location on that back and attaching them with a pin nailer after the finish. Keep in mind that was 40 small pieces that I had to pre-fit, finish and install.
It was well worth it. I think the colors worked very will and the proportions of the piece turned out great.
Most of the building took place in December 2011, but finished in January 2012.
