I just can’t stop making pens! (Well, I’m nearly out of kits… so inevitably I’ll have to, for a little while.)
I’m surprised how easy this turned – I was also surprised that instead of shavings I was buffeted with a rainstorm of slivers – this ain’t no short-sleeve turning wood (err… grass)
This is a platinum kit from Woodcraft, sanded, buffed and finished with walnut oil and friction polish.
incidentally, I put some bamboo blanks up on eBay. I figure If I can make a buck, or at least “break even” with pens, or blanks, I won’t have to keep asking “the Boss” if I can restock and keep this addiction, I mean hobby, going.

I warned you didn’t I but I guess the warning just came too late.
Scott as usual, this is a nice pen. I am glad to see you trying to recoup some of your “investment”.
Thanks for the post. Hopefully the Ebay sale will get you some seed money.
Have you thought about putting the pens on Ebay as well?
Thanks for the post.

the color of that bamboo goes really well with that platinum kit. That looks really nice.

I can quit anytime I want! (sounds like denial, huh?) – Cajunpen said the bug wears off sometime around 1000 pens – Don’t think my wife will let me throw (what once was) a years tuition at a room full of pens without them paying their own way!
This bamboo is caramelized – hence the color. You can get it in a lighter, blondish white “natural” color as well. I believe its physically cooked to caramelize the sugars in the plant, rather than dye or stain it – akin to fuming white oak with ammonia.

Good looking pen Scott. Just think – I started out turning pens and now I’m an International Mogul selling and shipping pens all over the world. Really not that big – but I do get a kick out of telling my wife that I am running an International Cartel, sometimes in my pajamas – all by myself. :-)). Keep making them, who knows?

tpastore – That is the platinum cigar pen kit from Woodcraft – I think the other major suppliers have the exact same design as well.
