We had an old fiberglas curtain that was dirty and very much in need of replacing. I used the designs of the side panels to make the design.
The material is mahogany. At the time this was built the material was $2800.00. The unit weight is 425 pounds and it was installed in one piece. The unit was lifted in place by an electric wench pulling a strap attached to steel lifting brackets. It went in plumb and level the first time.
The unit is about 92” wide and 96” up the sides. The fabric is acoustical cloth stapled to the back.
I made 3 I-beams that were attached to my shop floor and shimmed level with each other. This is what I built the unit on. I was able to clamp to the I-beam.
Most of the cross cuts were cut with a sliding chop saw, but the 22.5 degree cuts were cut with my router using a special jig that I made. I have included pictures of that. This project took 5 1/2 months of spare time to build. It took 9 men to carry it out of my shop. A friend owns a commerical wood shop. He quoted $40,000.00 to build and install it.

Bearpaw,
This is an absolutely gorgeous project. This was a winning project for everyone. You got a lot of quality woodworking time, the church got a beautiful grill and saved a ton of money.
thanks for the post.

I am often touched by the love and craftsmanship so many of our fellow woodjocks put into creating lovely and meaningful pieces for thier churches. You have done it again. Beautiful work.

Bearpaw that is absolutely incredible. Talk about a massive project. The mahogany was a good choice.

Bearpaw, Welcome aboard.
What a better way to use those talents that you have been given but to give them back to a church. The piece likes great.
