So I just found my first ever turning project, it’s a small alder cup/bowl/candel holder. I cant remember alot about the overal creation of this project, I think basically my grade 8 wood working teacher wanted me to get the idea of turning and gouging out a basic bowl shape…I guess i was torn if I wanted flat walls or curved walls, cause the inside is curved, the outside is flat, on the whole I’d say it’s pretty decent for a 13 year old’s first wood turning project, good job grade 8 Shawn. If you look at picture one, you will notice it is lamitated from 3 individual boards, umm, rounded, flat bottom, notmuch else to say about it, so without further adeau (sp?) enjoy, this is what started it all.

Another reason why Wood Shop should not be pulled from our schools. Someday we will all wish we were teaching something different than sports in our schools.
Good work Shawn.

Yes, it is sad to think most high schools do not offer wood shop any more. Imagine how all those first time home owners would feel if they had been able to take shop in school. They could have built some of the things they need, rather than buying everything pre-built at the big box stores. Or, they could decide to have a lumberjock build it for them instead, since they would appreciate all the time and effort it takes to build it.
Oh yea, nice cup Shawn.

THank you guys, though, as a Jock, and Lumberjock, I’d like to see woodshop funding come from the classroom, my wife the High School teacher would kill me if she read this…I like to live dangerously…
