This is my Roubo Bench built with the plans from Benchcrafted, including the Benchcraftted vises. Constructed from Ash and Purpleheart. I chose to use round benchdog holes—a no brainer and a no big deal for me. Is it permanently assembled, I chose not to use the breakdown hardware. Also, the tail vise end block is permanent. The surfaces are sanded to 80 grit and sealed with water-based wood sealer. The wheels are available from Rockler and work like a charm to make the bench mobile. The basic bench is not at all hard to make but getting the vises installed properly requires time and patience. The Benchcrafted site uses some “condor tails” to attach the front lamination to the tail vise end block. Lacking some big tools to accomplish this, you see finger joints on my assembly and I think it looks just as cool. I seasoned the cast iron hardware before assembly. Get some food grade linseed oil, coat the metal parts then wipe them down with a cloth, bake in your oven at 500 degrees for an hour. I did three treatments on mine. It’s hard to do a project of this size justice in just 6 pictures. So if you want to see me brag a little more, check out my album on Photobucket. It includes some before and after pictures of the hardware. Thanks for looking!!
