1) My wife and I were given an expensive “Lifetime” crib when my son was born 4 years ago but but we didn’t buy the full size conversion rails, so when he outgrew the crib we decided to buy the rails. When I contacted the crib company they wanted $179 for essentially two pieces of 1×6 hardwood. I felt I could do just as good or better for a whole lot cheaper.
2) I used a mortise bit I borrowed from my neighbor and an overpowered corded hammer drill to make the ( I guess it would be mortise).
3) I couldn’t find any steel rods to use as the stabilizers so I used heavy gauge nails and I cut off the heads with my Dremel. I bought the hardware (4x bolts and washers) from Home Depot
4) I used Minwax stain that I didn’t bother wiping off, I just sealed it with Minwax Polycyclic Protective finish..
It was a pretty easy project even though it was the very first time Ive made anything practical AND it lr made it a lot easier to buy new tools and not burrow so much from my generous neighbors.
