Just came across this on the computer. I made this for the burial flag of a friend that passed away awhile back. He lived next to my mom and step dad. His oldest son was a good friend of mine. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for you.
The case is made out of walnut. The shell casings are from his 21 gun salute. He was a military veteran. When I found out that his wife had them, I thought it would be nice to display them with the flag. The pictures aren’t very good and I didn’t take as many as I should have. I was in a hurry to get it in the mail. It was sad while making it, but I was honored that I got to do it for him and his family.

Nice work. I like the inclusion of the shell casings. It really personalizes the case.
My first real WW project, in my new shop, will be for my mother and is going to be a flag case for my father’s flag. I’m trying to think of a way to personalize it, much the way you did. My father was in SAC, USAF during Korea. I’ll think of something.
Again, excellent job & execution.

Thanks everyone.
@Randy: Ahhh, the days of SAC. I was in SAC when I joined the AF. I made an intarsia SAC patch for a retiring Chief a long time ago. I’ll have to see if I can find the picture and post it one day. Good luck with personalizing your dads. I’m sure you will come up with something nice.
