Definately my most challenging project to date. The mitred trestle legs were especially tricky. Each mitre has is joined with 3/4” dowel that run across the joint and those are pinned with 1/4” dowel for extra support. I made a couple of changes from Sam Maloof’s table in that I installed knock down hardware in the table so that I can take it apart if I need to move it and I didn’t inlay cork into the top like he did. It’s a big step up from our last table, which barely seated four! I’m still working on my photography skills, the pictures of the final product look really orange for some reason, I included a picture in the finishing stages that show the actual color a bit better.

Wow, this is an incredible table. I love the joinery. Anything Maloof-inspired is very elegant and timeless. But you did an outstanding job of interpreting and executing this one. Gorgeous.

That is a gorgeous table. What type of wood(s) did you use and what type of finish did you put on it.
This table looks to solidly constructed and is a beautiful design.
I also admire your finishing skills to be able to do this in place. I can tell you without a doubt if I tried something like this I would manage to get stain and finish on the walls, floor, ceiling etc. :)
Thanks for the post.

Thanks everyone! Scott – the wood is black walnut and the finish is the classic maloof blend, 1/3 raw tung oil, 1/3 linseed oil, 1/3 semi-gloss poly. It’s very time consuming to do a handrubbed finish on a piece this large but I think it was worth it.
