My first attempt at bent lamination. It was a lot easier than I imagined. Originally, I thought about making this sort-of like a band saw box, but it was too wide and thin. Mainly, I don’t think I could have kept the sides at an equal thickness throughout the entire shape.
So I went with three layers of very thin poplar and bent them around some pegs. The lid is a pressure-fit, nice and snug, using a modified rabbet to hold it in. Video here.

That looks really nice, Steve. Before you know it you will be working your way up to making grand pianos. :) I really like the box and can’t wait to see the video. I have never bent wood before (on purpose) and I really will enjoy seeing how you did it. What a nice gift for your sweetie! :)

Looking good. Is it a surprise for someone? Wait, that can’t be because it’s posted on a public forum that spans the globe. So much for it being a surprise. What was I thinking?

As long as the candy isn’t bitter and twisted as well. Seriously though a good box and a fun way to do it.
