Project Information
I carved this in Bog Oak. Just in case you dont know what bog oak is i will explain. Bog Oak is fossilised oak that was submerged in water and dark boggy soil for between 3000 and 5000 years. It is perfectly preserved and takes on a jet black colour while keeping the beautiful character of oak. The only problem is it is very unpredictable and has to be dried carefully and slowly and even then it will crack and twist. Back to the carving. Some details are heftier than i would like but due to the fragile nature of this timber when dry i didnt dare go any further. The spots are inlaid mahogany and i finished it with sanding sealer and two coats of briwax.
