After about 2 years of telling myself that I want to try Trifern’s method of dying a turning, I finally broke down and purchased a few of the dyes. I kept telling myself they were too expensive. Well, having a Rockler giftcard in hand I pulled the trigger and attempted to follow Trifern’s tutorial.
The bowl is made from a piece of ash from the crotch of a tree branch that was cut down in my neighborhood.
To get an idea of what the raw wood looks like, here is a project I turned from a piece of the same log.
I am very pleased with the outcome. I have a new addiction, and am looking forward to purchasing more colors to experiment with.
Thanks for the great inspiration Trifern!

Beautiful! Not sure which I like best, dyed or not… The dyed has flair, but the natural looks like soapstone. Nice pieces in either case.
