This little guy is handcarved entirely of one piece of white pine. The whole piece is textured first with a foredom high speed grinding stone. Then the dark areas are burned in with a wood burning pen. It is a long tedious process. The eyes are carved round then painted black, then two part epoxy applied for realism. He is about 6” high and wide x about 4” thick. The whole project is finished with several coats satin varnish. He chews on a Eucalyptus leaf on a branch, their favorite munchies.
THANKS FOR VIEWING MY GALLERY!

As always this is a nice project and he has a lot of character.
Out of curiosity why did you select pine instead of basswood for the carving?

Hey Scott!
At the time I did this piece I was doing everything in pine. About 15 years or more ago. It wasn’t ‘till later that I came into a gold mine of basswood. Good question though…......Dave
