Baby Doll Cradle

This cradle was inspired by a couple other cradles on LJ’s with a few modifications.

It is made of Walnut and Ash. To save some time the sides were glued and screwed then plugged with contrasting wood. I first had to make a pattern out of MDF, glued up the panels then cut them on the band saw. After rough cutting, I attached the patterns using 2 sided tape and routed them out using a straight bit on the router table.

Next I hand planed the surfaces and then went back to the router with a roundover bit. The bottom of the cradle has a brace between the rockers. The brace and rockers were doweled and glued into place.

The wife made a small mattress cover, blanket and pillow. It’s actually large enough for a real baby, however as soon as my grandaughter saw it she jumped in with her dolls!. I anticipated this so everything is 3/4 solid wood.

It was finished with several coats of gloss tung oil.

Well done, sounds like she already appreciates it!
