This is an airplane shelf that was featured in Wood magazine I believe. My wife saw something similar to it in a pottery barn catalog and said she wanted it for our son’s room. His room is air plane themed so I got the plans, and built it pretty much to plans. Not a hard project at all, great for just a skill building project.
Made mostly of painted MDF, with some poplar and the propeller was some scrap QSWO that I had laying around in the scrap heap. At first I was hesitant because previous experience working with MDF makes me essentially hate it, not to mention that almost all furniture now days is made of the stuff. But actually it wasn’t too bad, glue size makes a WORLD of difference on the finish, and looking at how consistent it finishes with proper preparation and using and HAND DRIVER to set the screws vs a drill, its actually not bad, wish now I would have done the paneling on my fireplace with it…
