I built this to eliminate the need for a desk in our guest room. There was an existing overhead light inside when we purchased the house. Used 3/4 Inch Maple Ply A grade and hand stained. It had to fit “look” into a Tommy Bahama style room without limiting my use with Cad, Solidworks, sketchup, gaming and everyday pc use. So I hid all components inside the closet and wired thru the studs when I removed the sheet rock. Inside the closet is the access panel. We also wanted the desk chair to push fully under the desk top which makes it about an inch or two higher than most traditional desks but I am 6’3 so I dont mind. Wife complains that the edging on desk top was “too pointy” so I redid the edging with a 1/8” curve on it and she is more than happy. Trim was solid Maple and my first experience with Maple wood.
Biggest issue was staining maple to get the color I wanted. Came out lighter than I hoped but with the area its in away from windows its almost if I did it on purpose. I am now learning sanding with 120g is too fine for the color I want. But I love how this came out and my wife, daughter and I use it daily.

Nice, it always nice to be able to make something for you house that improves the function. And always rewarding to look at it over time and remind yourself that you did it. Keep up the good work!

Startling difference. High-end office type look, I like it….
