When I made my walnut music stand, the Mrs. decided that she really likes the look of walnut (me too). However, she is not very musically inclined so a music stand just didn’t satisfy her desires. So, after a little conversation, it was decided that the stand part of the music stand was nice and all it needed was a different top. It was suggested that a small round top would look pretty good so, the stand was designed on moved up the to-do list rapidly.
It is made out of solid walnut and stands about 37 inches tall. The wife hasn’t decided if it is best suited for a lamp, or a plant (as she is a GardenTender, I’m betting on a plant).
The construction was pretty straightforward, the feet are mortised into the upright and the top sits on a smaller base that is also mortised to the upright.
The challenge here was making a circle. Since I don’t have a bandsaw I had to make a jig for my router. It should have been simple (I’ve seen it done before), but it’s not as easy as it looks. Spinning a running router on a piece of wood without doing ancillary damage is no mean trick. Yet, when all was said and done, the top was round and turned out pretty alright.

Very nice job, Russell. The arched legs add a nice touch to the piece. I am betting on a plant stand as well.
thanks for the post.
