My wife and I were married on July 16th. I made this wedding ring box for her and gave it to her with the ring in it. After a great Italian Honeymoon we are getting into the married groove and I am attempting to catch up on my project uploads.
I wanted to attempt it without any metal whatsoever. So I tried out my very first double hinge out of purpleheart and maple.
Woods used were Spalted maple (all side panels), purpleheart (edges and hinge), regular maple (hinge)
Criticism is always welcome!

I like the design, but I’m wondering about the plywood liner. Everything else looks great. Personally making something beats buying it, but now you are on a slippery slope of ‘Can’t you just make it?’

Robert triplett- Yes I had that exact hesitation. The spalted maple sheets that I have did not possess the strength on their own, now I really wish I would have used a thin piece of maple.

It looks good. I like the hinges, and am glad to see them working well. I have the idea of using similar hinges on a chess / backgammon board.

I’m a real fan of wooden hinges.
These are really nice.
I like the box as well.

Gorgeous box and the hinges are absolutely fantastic! Your choice of woods also works perfectly with the design.

I know this sounds like a “me, too” post but I love the hinges. When the box is closed, it almost looks like the two halves are laced together with leather lashing. Well done!!
