Its been a bit over twelve years since I built a coffee table (my first attempt at furniture). I relocted and had all my tools in storage and no place to do any woodworking so when idecided to converted my garage to a wood shop a friend of mine showed me a photo of an end table she had seen in a magazine and asked if I could build her two. I said I could if she wasnt in a hurry. She wanted it out of peruvian black walnut. When I mentioned the project to my Dad he asked if I could do three more out of ash for Christmas Gifts for his grand children. I said sure if your going to build one might as well build five! What a difficult idea that was. After about four months the five table finally materialized. The peruvian black walnut tables are finished in six coats of Sam Maloof’s mixture of 1/3 Tung Oil, 1/3 Boiled Linseed Oil & 1/3 Poly, The three ash tables are stained each with a different minwax stain and with 3 coats of minwax poly wipe on in satin and then two coats of bees wax polish. It was a fun undertaking but I don’t think I will build five of anything at one time in the future! :) My next project which I started today is a butcher block table with inclosed garbage can! Photos and progess to follow!!!
