my dad made some and i decided i give it a try my first didnt work but thes 2 did. The black one is wallnut and the light brown one is oak.

Nicely done these are a lot of fn to play with and make. I made a few a couple of months ago, my dagher loves them.

Little more detail on how you made them please .I make some whistles every spring from willow or hazelnut branches and would like to make some of these for the grand kids for a change .
