The dark walnut piece was the hardest to turn and the spalted maple that split. The dark walnut was out of crotch wood and was rock hard. But it came out nice with a coat of waterlox and rub on polyurethane made it sparkle. jockmike

Excellent piece, Mike. I’ve never turned dark walnut. Looks like there’s a ring on the top opening. What is the cause of this color difference?

In crotch wood you get that. A lot of color variations, however, for the most part this hunk was all pretty dark. mike, thanks Os.

thanks Dennis good to see your work comiing along too. 2 weeks out of the shop drove me crazy. Jezz I missed it. Got some pay backs to get done I’m not looking forwared to. like making head mounts for a couple big deer and a couple carabou heads,. Not head mounts but mounting the horns on some kind of oak rack. mike
