Cross Box

This is a box I made for my sister for Christmas. She is expecting her first child and I thought this would be something nice for the baby. We’re not particularly religious but I am the Godfather so I thought it was fitting.

It is made from Cherry, Black Walnut, and Poplar(bottom). The tab to open and close it is dovetailed into the lid and front wall of the case. It’s hard to tell from the pictures but when the lid is closed the tab it locks into the front wall. I was concerned that it would snap off if it was shut too hard so there are stoppers on the inside corners.

The finish is water based polyurethane and wax. The bottom is lined with brown felt and I used the CNC to carve the message in the bottom.

The lid stopper is just a plastic standoff and the felt keeps it quiet.

Size is roughly 16”x12”

It was a fun project to make and I know she appreciated it.

Thanks for looking!

Great wood choices and I really like the dovetail key as the handle. Nice inlay as well.

Nice box. I have done a few of cross boxes myself. I really like your choice in the cross style.

I just ran across this while perusing through the projects. Very nice! I’m sure your Sis was floored when you gave this to her.

Great Job!
