My first pen

I have turned a few thing and I have enjoyed it so far. I finally made a pen that my husband (LJ: tinman_362) uses for work. I know my husband loves it because he shows it off to everyone. The wood is Palm. It was really fun & easy to turn, but I just don’t know if I have the pen turning bug. I know the picture is not that great but it was taken from my phone, with bad lighting. I’ll try to take better pictures next project.

Thanks for looking,
Gina

Try a cigar pen and a click pen (everyone prefers a click pen over a twist pen). Try spinning one out of acrylic and one out of corn cob…....they are beautiful. The bug will catch you eventually.

Wait, what? palm easy to turn? wow, I wonder what kind of insane high-end ultra-high-tech tool you used, I’ve turned a few hundreds pens so far and the palm was by far the worst thing to turn I ever tried!

Very nice indeed. As a novice pen turner myself, it wont take long to catch that bug, I am already over thinking everything about how I do my pens, just relax and let the wood talk to you. Have fun and enjoy

I kinda like the look of the Palm wood, I enjoy the grain it shows.

Nice job! Try some of the higher end kits (I like the offerings at PSI and Craft Supplies USA). I really enjoy turning pens and find it a rewarding endeavour. I live relatively close to PSI and visit there often. If you see a pen kit that you like and want more detail, I’d be happy to answer any questions, if I can.
