Pretty straightforward….This was a prototype made from some wormy Ash that my wife decided would become a kid’s desk, so the lower shelf got deleted. The finals would be made with walnut and walnut crotch veneer panels but I am not crazy about this design after seeing it come to life. It seems too heavy and with the prototype, it has a very Asian inspired color combo, which I don’t really care for. Nonetheless, here it is….
No pics with the installed drawer hardware, sorry….
Finish is 3 coats of waterlox, mixed 75/25 original/satin for the frame, and 2# cut of shellac for top….4 coats.

Very nice looking. What did you use to do the ebonizing?

Thanks, I used Solar-Lux jet black since this was a prototype….If it was important, I would have used india ink….

The black dye is a nice choice. grain shows thru and contrasts the drawer sides,

The ebonized ash does set up a nice contrast with the drawers. The sapele is gorgeous. I really like its grain and color.
Thanks for the post.

Really nice desk – I like the coloring and finish on this one. The dovetails add a lot of detail to a simple looking desk (and I mean simple looking in a good way). Nice project.

Very nice looking piece. Are the dovetail’s machine cut? If so, what jig do you use?

Thanks for the kudos, though after building it, I decided that I really didn’t like the design, but oh well, the wife likes it….
As for the dovetails, I used a Leigh Super Jig…..Half blinds on the front and Miller dowels for the rear….
