Here are a few different pens that I made from some bowl drop-offs. When I am cutting up a blank I always keep the drop-offs and trim them down for other smaller projects. I am testing different techniques and finishes along the way. The first pic (the purple pen) was a dyed finish. I was not sure how this would look on a pen but I am very pleased with it (so are my 2 daughters who both want it). I have a few others that I have turned that I am testing different colors including a two tone color set that I am very pleased with. This is very good news for me since I have 100 plus 3/4×3/4×6” blanks that are plane maple and do not make for good looking pens (wood is very plain but has some grain to it). I am looking to try different dying color combinations on them.
Thanks for looking

Some really nice looking pens really like pen #3, What type of wood is that?. Certainly interested in hearing more about the dyes. Also like the way you displayed these for photos, very simple but very nice looking.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.
Chris – I am not sure what the wood is for #3.
As for the dyes I will document what I do when I put up the next post on my dyed pens.
