This project I build for my two nephews. It’s big but they have a lot of toys. Lid is 3/4” MDF, panels are 3/8”plywood, corners are 1-1/2” fir. Finished with what I had left of my fence stain and added some stenciling to dress it up a bit. Left a gap around the top of the panels to prevent fingers from being crushed. Lid stays open very well but I was still concerned about the weight so I bought some L.V. lid supports and although they looked good, they were not effective. For half the price I went to the local hardware surplus store and got some good ones. Wood, hinges, handles, and lid supports came to about $60.
What I learned on this project. Don’t rush with a router; Don’t rush finishing; Whatever you give to a 2 and a 4 year old they will put stickers on.
